Every great adventure begins with someone willing to lead the way.
For NatureTrack, those people are our volunteers, docents, donors, and supporters, the individuals who generously give their time, talents, and resources so thousands of children and families can discover the wonder of the natural world.
Recently, we had the privilege of celebrating these remarkable individuals during our annual Volunteer and Donor Appreciation Day at the beautiful Santa Ynez Airport. It was a day dedicated to gratitude, friendship, and reflecting on the extraordinary community that makes NatureTrack possible.
More Than Volunteers
NatureTrack’s volunteers do far more than lead hikes or answer questions along a trail, they inspire curiosity.
They introduce students to tidepools, oak woodlands, beaches, and wildlife, many for the very first time. They help children look up from their screens and discover a world filled with wonder. Every field trip, every Freedom Trax outing, every educational experience begins because someone chose to give their time.
A Community Built on Generosity
Our appreciation day wasn’t simply a celebration, it was a reminder that NatureTrack is powered by people who believe nature should be accessible to everyone. Whether it’s a docent leading a school field trip, a donor helping fund outdoor education, a volunteer preparing for an event, or a community partner opening new doors, every contribution creates opportunities that would not otherwise exist.
Because of this community, thousands of students each year experience hands-on environmental education, and individuals using wheelchairs are able to explore beaches, trails, and open spaces through NatureTrack’s Freedom Trax program.
Taking Flight
One of the day’s unforgettable highlights was the opportunity for attendees to experience flights aboard Lew’s beautifully restored 1946 Widgeon aircraft, a fitting reminder that sometimes changing your perspective begins by simply seeing the world from a different vantage point.
Just as NatureTrack encourages people to explore new trails, these flights offered another way to appreciate the remarkable landscapes we are so fortunate to call home.
