The impact of the Nature Track program on our residents at Mission Park cannot be overstated. It has provided them with invaluable experience and opportunities to connect with nature in ways they never thought possible.
The program has not only brought joy and happiness to our residents, but it has also strengthened family bonds and created lasting memories. The ability for our residents to immerse themselves in nature without worrying about their physical limitations has been truly transformative. It has allowed them to overcome fears, interact with others in the community an experience the freedom of exploring the outdoors. Families have been grateful for the chance to see their loved ones enjoys activities they once thought were out of reach.
The impact of the program can be seen in the tears of happiness, the laughter, and the smiles of our residents. It has brought a sense of joy and wonder to individuals who may have felt isolated or limited in their abilities.
The Nature Track program truly is a miracle for our residents, and it deserves all the recognition for the incredible work it does. In a society that often overlooks the needs of the elderly and individuals with disabilities, programs like Nature Track are essential in providing a sense of freedom and joy.
It is important to recognize and appreciate the incredible work that programs like Nature Track are doing for our residents, giving them the chance to break free from their limitations and worries, if only for a little while.

NatureTrack, a company that’s rooted in fostering a sense of excitement and passion when it comes to the outdoors, provides K-12 students, wheelchair users and others with physical disabilities with the opportunity to explore the natural wonders of Santa Barbara. Specifically, NatureTrack has partnered with Freedom Trax in offering a motorized, off-road attachments for manual wheelchairs that allows wheelchair users to navigate across terrain such as sand or hiking trails—independently—and free of charge. The NatureTrack Foundation has named Braiden Flaherty as the first student from Lompoc High School to receive the $5,000 NatureTrack Nancy Stearns Scholarship, marking a milestone in the scholarship’s four-year history.
Flaherty, who is also the first young man to receive the scholarship, will be pursuing an education in Marine Biology at UC Santa Cruz.
“Braiden’s selection is a testament to his deep-rooted passion for animals, a trait evident from his personal and family background,” said Dennis Nord, NatureTrack Board member and docent.

NatureTrack Foundation brought the Freedom Trax to Arroyo Burro Beach on Sunday for a demonstration.
For many of us, the hardest part of going to Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara is finding a parking spot.
For people who use wheelchairs, the challenges are more than just petty annoyances. It can be just about impossible to move a wheelchair on top of sand.
Steve Schulz, a wheelchair user for more than 20 years, overcame that obstacle on Sunday with the help of a specially fitted chair from the local NatureTrack Foundation.

GOLETA, Calif. – For those who are mobility challenged, these wheels are in motion like they’ve never seen before.
Freedom Trax units are available now and they can bring someone in a wheelchair to the beach, park, or modest hiking trail.
Abby Pickens is with the Nature Track non-profit providing the small tractor-style systems that she says “will help you access nature and sand a lot easier.”
Residents of two assisted living homes, Heritage House and Mission Park, explored areas of Goleta Beach Tuesday that they could only see from a distance before.
Pickens said, “People can transfer into the wheelchairs that we have or they can stay in a wheelchair that they have and we can wheel them onto the Trax.”
